About 2 million foreign tourists will visit Russia during the 2018 FIFA World Cup  26.02.2018 15:11

As reported the chairman of the State Duma Committee for Physical Culture, Sport, Tourism and Youth Affairs Mikhail Degtyaryov, about 2 million foreign tourists (including 1.5 million fans) will visit Russia during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

"Today, the cities hosting the matches are fully prepared to receive about 1.5 million fans who are going or have already purchased their tickets, not to mention those who come with them just to see Russia and get acquainted with its cultural heritage. Estimated 2 million tourists will visit our country in a month," he added.

The executive director of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) Maya Lomidze said that the number of fans wishing to come to the 2018 FIFA World Cup is much more than expected. According to her, the largest number of guests will come from Latin America, Europe, Iran, Saudi Arabia, as well as from the United States whose football team does not participate in the championship. In addition, the number of requests for air tickets from Croatia, Spain and Italy to Russia has increased from 17 to 40%.

The participants of the press conference also noted that due to the large number of fans, transport hubs in Russia such as Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan and Yekaterinburg will be overtaxed. "No team plays two matches in one city, everyone moves, so do fans. Logistics is ok but we will have to take out 20-40 thousand guests at a time and this is the main problem, in my opinion", said the Vice President of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers Sergei Kolesnikov.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held in summer 2018 in 11 cities of Russia. 32 teams will participate in the tournament.
