V Russia-China Tourism Forum was held on March 10, 2017 in Moscow. The event gathered over 500 participants - tourism experts working with China who discussed such practical issues as promotion of travel products and services for tourists from China, marketing, strategic ways of development of the Russian-Chinese tourism.

Besides Moscow and Primorsky Krai being the most popular destinations for the Chinese tourists, five regions of Russia intending to attract the attention of Eastern partners announced their potential. Experts from the leading Chinese travel companies and carriers evaluated the competitors and gave them valuable recommendations based on the requirements they impose on the tourist destinations. According to their attractiveness for Chinese travel companies, five Russian regions were put in the following order: the fifth place of honor was taken by Kaliningrad. Experts advised the local tourist authorities to develop shopping and focus on amber. The fourth place was taken by Krasnoyarsk Krai, although the experts advised to promote Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Baikal. The third place was taken by Nizhny Novgorod: the experts evaluated the ropeway through the Volga and Khokhloma but said that the "Red Route" involving traveling to places of revolutionary glory would attract only the tourists of the older generation, while young people would be interested in modern Russia. The second place went to Murmansk: the experts do not hide their admiration for the northern lights but complain about the lack of Chinese restaurants in this city (which is important for tourists from China) and the lack of Chinese-speaking guides. Finally, the first place among the contestants was taken by the Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort.
