Russia and Costa Rica have abolished the visa regime. The intergovernmental agreement entered into force on May 25. The document was signed on May 3, 2018 in San Jose and on May 28, 2018 in Moscow. According to it, the Russians who have valid passports can freely go to Costa Rica for up to 90 days. In addition, a visa will not be required for transit travel.

However, those who want to stay in Costa Rica for more than three months, as well as those who plan to engage in labor or commercial activities, a visa will be required.

Costa Rican citizens will also be able to go to Russia for up to 90 days within each 180 days, from the date of first entry.

Last year five thousand Russian tourists visited Costa Rica.

In the rating of passports attractiveness made by the Swiss consulting company Henley & Partners in March, Russia ranked 47th - at that time its citizens could visit 118 countries without visas.
