Extending the validity of Russian visas to six months will increase foreign tourist flow  26.08.2019 14:25

Increasing the maximum validity period of visas to Russia up to six months will have a positive impact on the foreign tourist flow, said the Executive Director of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia Maya Lomidze. "We say from tine to time that "Russia is symmetrical with Europe". But Europe gives us 3-5-years visas, and there is not even an annual visa to Russia. This extension for six months is a good story. It can affect the flow", - she said.

At the same time, the cancellation of invitations from tour operators, according to Maya Lomidze, will not affect the flow of tourists to Russia. "The majority of foreign tourists come to Russia through tour operators. It is very difficult to issue a visa.

Lack of confirmation is a trifle that does not affect anything”, - she said.

Lomidze stressed that the real breakthrough is the introduction of electronic visas to Russia since 2021.

This week the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation have discussed the amendments to the law on the procedure of entry to the Russian Federation  and exit from the Russian Federation. The document proposes to increase the term of stay of foreigners in Russia with a regular tourist visa up to six months instead of one month. Also, the Ministry proposed to simplify the procedure of visa registration for foreign tourists: instead of confirmation from the tour operator it will be enough for them to show the hotel reservation.
