Lukashenko does not expect any problems with signing an agreement with Russia  24.12.2018 13:30

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is confident that the agreement on mutual recognition of visas between the Republic of Belarus and Russia will be signed soon. "As for the union "shengen", I think there will be no problems here", - said Lukashenko during a press conference for the Russian media on Friday in Minsk.

According to the president, the reason for the delay is that the document has not yet undergone the domestic procedures in Belarus. "But most importantly, I have not seen it yet. Only last night, I got it", - he said. "I think it won't be a problem – the signing of this agreement. Especially as the Foreign Ministry informs me, all the wishes of both Belarusians and Russians are taken into account", - added Lukashenko.

One of the documents planned to be signed by the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia - the agreement on mutual recognition of visas - was not signed the day before. According to Prime Minister of Belarus Syarhey Rumas, the signing of the agreement has been postponed, as the republic has not managed to complete the domestic procedures.

The agreement provides that persons who hold a visa for one country may enter, leave and stay in the territory of the other country according to the visa. If a foreigner has a Belarusian visa, he will be able to enter and stay in the territory of the Russian Federation during the period of his visa.

Besides, after the signing of the agreement on mutual recognition of visas, the Russian side promised to remove control at the airports for the flights from Belarus.

The document also provides the integration of information resources: the competent authorities of Belarus and Russia will exchange information about border crossing, visas issued, cancelled visas, temporary or permanent residence permit.
