Head of the Federal Agency for Tourism Zarina Doguzova and Minister of Tourism of India Prahlad Singh Patel have discussed the development of tourism between Russia and India during the working meeting.
"The main topics of discussion were the issues of expansion of air communication between Russia and India, as well as the facilitation of visa regime, including the issues of preparation for the introduction of e-visa in Russia from 2021 and the possibility of introduction of visa-free regime for tourist groups between the countries for the period of 21 days", - informed the portal "Interfax-Tourism" in the press service of the Federal Agency for Tourism.
The parties managed to reach preliminary agreements on the actual issues. In particular, it was decided to establish a joint working group between representatives of the tourism authorities of Russia and India, between representatives of the business and expert community to develop a joint action plan to increase tourism exchanges.
Russia also proposed to carry out mutual information and marketing campaigns to promote tourism. The participants of the meeting noticed that the mutual tourist flow between Russia and India may exceed 1 million people annually (500 thousand from each side).
"For Russia and India, tourism can become a new strategic sector of the economy, contribute to the creation of new jobs, and develop the local communities and the environment. India is a priority tourist destination for us", - Doguzova said.
According to the Russian Federal State Statistics Service, about 190 thousand Russian tourists visit India annually, and about 86 thousand travelers from India go to Russia.
