Russia and Saudi Arabia discussed the possibility of abolishing visas  25.10.2019 15:20

Russia and Saudi Arabia discussed the possibility of abolishing visas and opening direct flights between the countries, as the press service of the Federal Agency for Tourism informed.

On Monday, during the state visit of the Russian President Vladimir Putin to Saudi Arabia a memorandum of mutual understanding was signed between the Federal Agency for Tourism and the Commission for Tourism and National Heritage of Saudi Arabia.

"This is the first interstate document in the sphere of tourism between our countries that creates a legal basis for cooperation and joint initiatives. The document was prepared according to the mutual interest of our countries in the development of tourism exchanges", - the press service of the Federal Agency for Tourism told.

The ministry stressed that the removal of visa restrictions is an urgent issue on the bilateral agenda. "Our countries operate in accordance with the global trend in tourism that involves the gradual removal of visa and border barriers for travelers. Saudi Arabia has opened its doors to international tourists for the first time. The Kingdom has begun to issue tourist visas to a large number of countries, and we are very pleased that Russia is included in this list," - noted in the Federal Agency for Tourism.

Also, the agency noted that Russia "is working hard to facilitate the visa regime and formalities". "Now the electronic visa is valid for tourists coming to the regions of the Far East and Kaliningrad, since October 1, the electronic visa was introduced in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region. From January 1, 2021 the electronic visa will work in the whole territory of Russia, and we consider it a real breakthrough for the tourism", - said in the Federal Agency for Tourism.
