Russia signed an agreement on mutual visa abolition with the UAE  09.07.2018 13:43

Last Friday, an intergovernmental agreement on the mutual visa abolition between Russia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was signed in Kazan. "Today we’ve witnessed the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on the abolition of the visa regime for citizens of Russia and the Emirates," said the Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov after signing the document.

At a meeting of the intergovernmental Russian-Emirates Commission, D.Manturov said that the signing of this agreement would create favorable conditions for the development of business mobility and an increase in the tourist flow between the countries.

According to the Minister, a memorandum on mutual understanding and cooperation in the sphere of tourism was signed earlier. "We can already note a significant increase in the number of Russian tourists arriving in the UAE which increased by more than 50% last year. More than 750,000 Russian tourists visited the UAE; according to expert estimates, their contribution to the economy of the country exceeded $ 2.3 billion. Taking into account the forthcoming removal of the visa barrier, we also expect an increase in the incoming tourist flow of citizens from the Emirates," D.Manturov said.

Since February 2017, Russian nationals can receive free UAE visas valid for up to 30 days upon their arrival and have the possibility to extend their validity period for another 30 days. According to the UAE authorities, about 995,000 Russian tourists visited the country in 2017 that is 108% more than a year ago.
