Russian visa processing time will be increased for the British nationals  26.03.2018 13:10

The Russian diplomatic mission in London will shorten the reception on consular issues and increase the visa application processing time due to the expulsion of 23 Russian diplomats.

"Due to the irresponsible actions of the British government as a result of which 23 diplomats of the Russian embassy including a number of consular officers were expelled from the UK, a significant damage was caused to the consular service of citizens. Considering the above, we are forced to temporarily reduce the reception on consular issues," states the message posted on the consular Facebook page.

"In this situation caused by the British side, the processing time for all Russian visa applications will be increased within the framework of the legislation of the Russian Federation. Processing times will be increased to up to 3 working days (express service) and up to 20 working days (standard service) in accordance with the tariff fees for consular actions, except for citizens of those countries with which Russia has visa agreements," added the Russian diplomatic mission.

"The Embassy is taking steps to restore the normal functioning of the consular department, especially for the full-fledged servicing of Russian citizens and compatriots," concluded the embassy.

The expulsion of 23 diplomats was one of the measures announced by the British Prime Minister Theresa May due to the poisoning of the former GRU officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia happened in British Salisbury. Diplomats left the UK on Tuesday.

Russia has denied all accusations of London owing to the "Skripal affair". On March 17, Russia announced retaliation measures to be taken against the UK.

According to the Federal State Statistics Service, 178 thousand trips were made from Great Britain to Russia in 2017 which is 0.6% more than in 2016.
