Russia received a model agreement with Saudi Arabia on the simplification of the visa regime between states, said the Russian ambassador in the kingdom Sergey Kozlov.

According to him, now the document is "on the expert examination" in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "I hope that in the future we will receive a positive response to the proposal of the Saudi side. It will significantly simplify the issuing of visas", - Kozlov said during a meeting of business circles of two countries.

Earlier, the Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia and Saudi Arabia intend to make visa regime for businessmen. The Russian-Saudi Business Council has already prepared a model document on the simplification of the visa regime for business representatives.

In October, the deputy of State Duma Sergey Krivonosov spoke in favor of establishing a "special tourist relationship" with Saudi Arabia at the legislative level.

Saudi Arabia is considered one of the most closed countries in the world. Tourists cannot get a visa there. According to the Association of Russian Tour Operators, only businessmen, Muslims making pilgrimage to Mecca, or foreigners coming to visit relatives can go to the country by a visa.

As reported, the government of the kingdom approved a plan of measures providing for the issuance of tourist visas for foreigners. The first stage will be the issuance of visas for those who travel in groups.

Nowadays, 200 thousand foreigners visit Saudi Arabia every year.
