The decision to introduce e-visas for foreign tourists can be made in the next six months  15.03.2019 13:10

    According to the Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, the decision on the introduction of electronic visas for foreign tourists can be made in the next six months, this issue is being seriously discussed at all levels.

     “There is such a task, this issue is being strongly debated at all levels. I think that in the next six months there will be a solution that will make a big difference in this issue. We are in favor of expanding this product which already justifies itself. The president instructed to work through this issue. We are talking about geographical expansion within the country as well as expanding the list of countries," she said.

       Following the results of the forum of the Business Russia All-Russian public organization held on February 6, 2019, the President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare proposals for simplifying visa procedures for foreign tourists by March 31, 2019. Earlier, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade stated that it is developing an online platform where foreigners can get electronic visas when purchasing a package of services. Besides, the first cities where electronic visas can be introduced will be Moscow and St. Petersburg.

       Since August 2017, the system of issuing electronic visas is valid for foreign tourists in Primorye. Since then, over 68 thousand visas have been issued. An application for an electronic visa is currently available to citizens of 18 states. This should be done on a specialized site four days before the intended entry. Such a visa is issued free of charge without any consular fees.
