The Russian Union of Travel Industry hopes to abolish visas for tourists from Turkey  11.02.2019 14:00

The Russian Union of Travel Industry hopes that the return of visa-free regime for some categories of Turkish citizens will be followed by the abolition of visas for tourists from Turkey, said the press secretary Irina Tyurina.

On Wednesday Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree canceling some special economic measures imposed on Turkey in 2016, after the Turkish military shot down a Russian Su-24 aircraft over Syrian territory. In particular, the decree returns visa-free entry to Russia for diplomats coming on business trips and for professional drivers.

"We hope that this is only the beginning of a positive process, and soon visas will be cancelled for tourists from Turkey. The statistic clearly shows how the visa barrier disturbs the tourists flow from Turkey", - she said.

The expert said that in 2015, before the beginning of all complications between our countries, 115.8 thousand tourists from Turkey visited Russia, according to the data of the Border Guard Service, and it was 15.6% more than in 2014. "For the first 9 months of 2018 only 36.2 thousand Turkish tourists came to us for tourism", - said Tyurina.

According to the opinion of the experts, the return of visa-free travel for Turkish tourists would double the flow of tourists from Turkey to Russia.
