Turkey hopes to abolish visas with Russia in 2019  19.11.2018 15:00

The Deputy Minister of Commerce of Turkey Fatih Metin expressed the hope that the visa regime between Russia and Turkey will be canceled the next year.

Metin noted that six million Russian tourists visited Turkey in 2018, and it is expected that this figure will increase in the near future.

"2019 is declared the year of culture and tourism of Russia and Turkey. I hope that visas will be abolished this year, and Turkish tourists will start coming to Russia," Metin said during a plenary session at the Russian-Turkish business forum New Era of Russian-Turkish business relations held in Moscow. In August, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's readiness to negotiate on a reciprocal simplification of the travel regime for certain categories of Turkish citizens.

Russian-Turkish relations are intensively developing after overcoming the crisis between the two countries in connection with the destruction of the Turkish Air Force over Syria by the Russian Su-24 bomber in November 2015. Then, against the background of the cooling of relations between the two countries, Russia introduced a visa regime for Turkish citizens.
